Traitors (Protagonists)

Leads

Bastalek (Sebastian) Kent [Male. Middle Age. Deep timbre. Deliberate.] – Sebastian Kent was born on one of the core worlds of the Imperium of man. An able-bodied “boulder of a man” he found service within the Astra Militarum. He worked his way up to the role of Captain and served with distinctions. A decade later, he is now “Bastalek”, the Commander of the Traitor Guard platoon Gluklich 114 (aka the Hounds of Sabal). Renowned for his ‘no prisoners’ creed and impeccable military mind, he comes to rain fire down on Antiqua Pall. A ‘fleshshaper’ he is able to rearrange his flesh (and others) as a potter would mould clay, giving him an array of combat strategies. Beneath the surface, however, he has come to loathe an unhallowed circumstance and hides ‘precious cargo’ which will determine the fate of the Hounds.

Rudolf Nusz [Male. Middle Age. Moderate timbre. Empassioned.] – Recruited into the Astra Militarum as a boy, Rudolf was a mischievous individual. In public, he considered ways to right wrongs and end injustices within his Imperial Hive City, but on the inside Rudolf was a self-centered, unfeeling, egotist. A psychopath driven by his immense hatred for the failed ‘utopian’ Imperium, he has turned to the vices of malice and pain to enact his rage. Aroused by the promise of delivering death and suffering unto others, he joins Gluklich 114 (aka the Hounds of Sabal) but later finds himself experiencing a numbness to violence. As the war continues, he steadily becomes more excessive in his actions in order to overcome the dull hole in his emotions.

Supporting Cast

Hilush [Genderless. 150+ Yrs. Any] – A Tech-Priest of the Dark Mechanicum, the analytic cyberized brain of the logician is used to calculate manuevers and probabilities for Bastalek. He has an insatiable desire for appetite for data and knowledge.

Ryovi Bhan Sareet [Female. Middle Age/Older. Non-Caucasian] – A Dark Apostle of Bastalek’s warband, she brokers favours with the ruinous powers of Chaos on his behalf. A psyker, she is Bastalek’s oracle, but is also content to explore unsanctioned deals for the good of the army – and herself.

Tallali Black [Female. Younger/Middle Age. Any] – An infantry squad leader in Gluklich 114. She carries out Bastalek’s military commands with support and affection. She wears scars across her face and body, the result of her years in Imperial slave yards.

Bastalek (Sebastian) Kent

It’s a race against time. The longer we linger, the worse it will be. Men do horrible things when given the time to relish in war.

His bloody hand reaches out to me. It’s smooth. Uncracked. Physically, he’s an apt, handsome man. A perfect soldier. Golden boy. But a perfect person wouldn’t kill like this. Looking at the decapitated head on the ground, the cut is exact. A  good man would have made mistakes. Shaken. Worried. Rushed. But it’s steady.  He didn’t flinch or pause during the act. No errors. Flawless. He just smiles the widest smile.

I stimulate exposed tissue, reform it like a fruit between my fingers. Some are addicted to these alterings. Others see it as a transformation and step towards perfection. With a tender pull, I unweave the nerves and synapses in his hands. His flesh comes off like a wet glove, unveiling muscle to the air.

There is a story from the War of Flies, when famine gnawed away at the world of Laphis. A scholar was incarcerated by the Ecclesiarchy, holding to the reputation of him being a sorcerer who had done much harm to the subjects of Ultramar with his Charms and Devilishness. The famine was so severe and the conditions so poor that during this terrible period the prisoners of the jail had already resorted to cannibalism, and soon after the scholar’s arrival the other inmates fell upon the weak old man to fill their stomachs. Shortly after this crime, the inmates guilty of his death reportedly began seeing the spectre of a monstrous black dog haunting up and down the halls of the Prison, which they were convinced was the sorcerers’ spirit returning to avenge himself. This entity reportedly killed and consumed those responsible, one by one, until the last survivors, driven mad by fear, broke out of the prison and escaped. And the black hound followed.

Rudolf Nusz

The face of slaughter gapes into the city, marching slow and assured. They are the lost and the damned. They stop, meters away, and wait for it. The signal. The one that happens in every battle. The sign that all hell is about to break loose. That it’s going to get worse, and it won’t be getting better.

There’s enough shots as there are bodies. One by one they drop. As they fall, I spot one holding a lump of flesh in his lap, a hole where his crotch once was. He cries, squeezing as blood bubbles through his fingers. A knot begins to build in my pelvis. Not disgust. Excitement.

We pile in and men are trampled underfoot as they try to retreat. Face to face with the defenders, our rifle stocks collide with theirs. I spit on them, pushing with all my might. Their line bends and breaks and the ground becomes unstable. It’s soft – the ground is soft with bodies. I dig my heels in for a better grip, and those underfoot gasp for air.

There are no crimes this night, just the exacting, decimating thrust of war. I can faintly taste it, even this far away. Pain. An ecstatic emotion. Like falling in love for the first time. Like finding one’s calling.

Hilush

She’s a superstitious rune-maid. It wounds me to agree, but Apostle Ryovi is correct. Conscripts invite the challenge of defection or desertion. But to keep to your timetable, Commander, it must be done.

I would relish the opportunity to dig around his brain, commander.

Ryovi Bhan Sareet

You have a pupil here. The Whispers beyond have taken notice of Him. — Thought you should know.

Talk all you want about duty. When have you ever felt so full of savage coal-black pleasure

Tallali Black

Get in there or I’ll shoot you myself!

The commander doesn’t let us take trophies…
