Position Overview:
Cold Open Stories is seeking a passionate and creative Video Essayist to join our team of dedicated volunteers. As a Video Essayist, you will play a crucial role in producing high-quality video content that delves into the fundamentals of short story writing, film and novel reviews, and creative writing. This is a remote volunteer position, and you will be responsible for creating one video essay per week – narrated either by yourself or a voice talent provided by the Creative Director.
This position works closely with our Creative Director to convert authors and voice talents’ works into new immersive audio experiences for our audience. This position offers a unique opportunity to showcase your editing and mixing skills while contributing to the growth of our platform.
Content Creation:
- Research and develop engaging and informative video essay scripts related to short story writing, film and novel reviews, and creative writing.
- Present ideas and concepts clearly and concisely through video essays that captivate and educate our audience.
Scriptwriting:
- Write well-structured and compelling scripts that offer deep insights into storytelling techniques, literary analysis, and creative writing tips.
- Ensure accuracy and thorough research when discussing films, novels, or creative writing concepts.
Video Production:
- Record and edit video essays with high production quality, incorporating visual aids, graphics, and relevant media clips.
- Maintain a consistent and professional on-screen presence.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other team members, including editors and content managers, to refine and enhance your video essay content.
- Incorporate feedback and make necessary revisions to improve the overall quality of your work.
Consistency:
- Produce one video essay per week, adhering to a consistent publishing schedule.
Qualifications:
- A passion for storytelling in various forms, including film, literature, and creative writing.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to convey complex ideas in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Experience in video production, including scriptwriting, recording, and video editing.
- Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.
- Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines consistently.
