
Invasive Affairs
Scripted Audio Production
To celebrate five years of programming, Cold Open Stories embarked on its most ambitious project yet—Invasive Affairs, an original anthology of three audio drama plays featuring voice talent from major industry players, including Electronic Arts, Disney, Showtime, Netflix, and Prime Video.
Serving as the project’s writer, producer, director, audio engineer, and marketer, we led this project from conception to release, crafting a rich, immersive experience that pushed the boundaries of audio storytelling.

Ideation
The journey began with writing three scripts, each running between 35 to 50 minutes, designed as standalone stories within a cohesive anthology. Inspired by films like Annihilation, The Ruins, and Little Joe, the trilogy delves into the bargains we make—with others and ourselves—for survival, all set against the backdrop of ruinous invasive plants and gripping human drama.
As the author, producer, and coordinator, we not only wrote the scripts but also built the website, created the artwork, and leveraged connections across television, radio, and the video game industry to assemble a talented cast. With a focus on Latin American characters and narratives, we cast a wide net—working with over 300 voice actors of diverse backgrounds to find the perfect talent to bring these stories to life.



Execution & Production
Once cast, we coordinated both guided and independent recording sessions, ensuring that performances were authentic, emotionally compelling, and sonically cohesive. With the recordings complete, we meticulously mastered the dialogue, cutting together performances to create seamless storytelling. But bringing Invasive Affairs to life required more than just voices—it needed atmosphere.
We created original foley sound effects, using our own field recording tools to add texture and realism to every scene.
Beyond production, we spearheaded the marketing and promotion of the series. we developed and designed an email nurture campaign to engage audiences, crafted a strategic social media presence to build momentum, and leveraged industry connections to appear on podcasts and shows, sharing insights into the creative process.

Results & Impact
- Launched Invasive Affairs across Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and PodBean, ensuring broad accessibility.
- Executed a multi-platform marketing campaign, leveraging social media and community engagement to drive awareness – becoming the most-watched and listened-to production, on Cold Open Stories’ podcast channels which have achieved over half a million streams and 12,000+ subscribers.
- Provided veteran performers with high-quality portfolio material, enhancing their industry credibility, and created breakthrough opportunities for emerging talent, giving them industry credits and professional exposure.
- Demonstrated the power of independent audio storytelling, reinforcing Cold Open Stories’ reputation as a leader in the space.
